About Mike.

INSPIRED TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

Served 13+ Years on the Allen Economic Development Corporation Board

I’m Mike Schaeffer and it’s a pleasure to meet you.

I love the City of Allen, and that’s why I’m running for City Council, Place No. 1. My wife and I have raised our kids right here in Allen! We’ve lived here for over 25 years and watched the City blossom into the vibrant community that it is today. Moreover, I’ve dedicated the past 14+ years giving back to the Allen community through service, volunteering, and actively participating in making Allen the great city that we have now. I’m ready to help guide us through the important issues at hand and seek to continue to make this a place that attracts both families and businesses.

I would appreciate your vote in the upcoming May 2024 Allen City Council election.

Hot Topics.

THINGS I’M FIGHTING FOR

  • Lower Property Taxes
I pledge to continue Allen’s long history of lowering the tax rate while maintaining the city services that All of Allen deserves.

  • Economic Growth
I am committed to ensuring that planned and intentional growth throughout the city best serves Allen by building a stronger commercial tax base as well as bringing in new and unique uses that all our residents can enjoy.

  • Public Safety
Through my work on the Allen Public Safety and Recovery Board and as Chair of the new Allen Police Headquarters Bond campaign, I have demonstrated my commitment to our first responders;  ensuring they are provided with the right equipment, personnel and facilities to sustain our reputation as one of the safest cities in Texas.

  • Best in Class
Allen is an exceptional city! I commit to keeping us there. Now is not the time to hit the brakes and cut budgets across the city while we’re still growing.

  • No to New High Density Apartments Zoning
I believe it’s important that everyone knows the facts about apartments as it relates to our 121 corridor. So much has been debated over the course of this campaign. The reality is, all the apartments along 121 from Custer to 75 are already approved from the sitting city council.
It’s all there in black and white on the city website for everyone to see for themselves.

Allen City Council Minutes dated January, 11 2022: Agenda Item 5.1
Approval of Land Use and Zoning for The Farm and Gateway projects (including multifamily)
    Passed unanimously 7-0

Allen City Council Minutes dated July 12, 2022 – Agenda Item 6.5
Approval of Land Use and Zoning for 121 and Custer (including multifamily)
    Passed unanimously 7-0

Any current council member saying they didn’t approve apartments is either bold faced lying or doesn’t know what they’re voting on, which in either case is concerning.

All these mixed use projects go through a Technical Review Committee with the City of Allen which the School District is a part of. They go through every aspect of the project including phasing, infrastructure needs and requirements, green space requirements, etc. The notion a town of 130,000 is going to over burden their infrastructure is nonsense. Your water will still turn on and your toilet will continue to flush.

It’s all a very measured approach to ensure our developer partners follow our land development code and we right size everything because we know the uses that will be built.

If any new council were to attempt to rezone these parcels against the land owners wishes, it would set the stage for millions of dollars in litigation and the city would likely ultimately lose due to Texas Property Rights. I do not support going down that road.

To be clear, I have never incentivized, zoned or approved a single apartment in Allen.
